8th June 2006 - Cooley Unveils Greenore Single Grain Irish Whiskey
Cooley Distillery is proud to unveil Greenore Single Grain Small Batch Irish whiskey. Cooley is the only independent Irish whiskey distillery and has been an innovator in forging new expressions and markets in Irish whiskey. In Greenore Cooley has created a unique and exceptional Single Grain Irish Whiskey experience with distinctive character. Single Grain whiskies are very rare as most grain whiskey finds itself into Blended whiskies. Jim Murray, the world renowned whiskey expert, considers Cooley’s grain distillery to produce one of the best tasting grain whiskeys in the world – Greenore gives whiskey consumers the opportunity to sample this for themselves. This rare whiskey comes in small hand picked batches reflecting its premium positioning in the Irish Whiskey category. Greenore is distilled at the award winning Cooley Distillery using only the purest of water from the Cooley Mountains and fine high quality grains, which are found in abundance in Ireland. The whiskey is matured in bourbon oak casks in 200-year-old granite warehouses. The simple combination between the whiskey, the bourbon oak casks and modest climate creates the taste of vanilla and honeyed sweetness that characterises Greenore. The result is a silky smooth whiskey with a robust character that is a truly delightful experience for the discerning spirits drinker. In order to fully appreciate the interaction between the whiskey and the single used bourbon casks, each year a small batch of casks will be hand picked by Cooley’s Master Blender. This will result in limited bottling's of varying ages being introduced over the next few years. The first Greenore is an 8 year old to be followed by a 10 year old, then a 16 Year Old and finally an 18 Year Old. Production will be limited to 5,000 bottles due to inventory constraints. “We are delighted to be introducing Greenore Irish whiskey in a package that truly reflects the quality of the whiskey” says Jack Teeling, New Business Development Manager for Cooley Distillery, “We are starting out with an 8 Year Old Bottling but over the next few years will be releasing choice casks of different aged Single Grain whiskies. This will be a great journey for Cooley, our customers and whiskey drinkers alike.”
