July 22nd 2004 - Gold Medal Bonanza in London The world class reputation of Cooley Whiskeys has been further enhanced by winning 5 gold medals at the world’s premier spirits competition in London – a spectacular 4 gold medals for our single malts. Tyrconnell Single Malt and the Lockes 8 year Old Single Malt each won a gold while the Connemara range won 2, one for the Peated Single Malt and the second for the 12 Year Old Peated Single Malt. These golds follow on the Double Gold and "Best Irish Whiskey" for our Connemara range in San Francisco earlier this year. In a further tribute to our peated whiskeys, Inishowen, the only peated blended Irish, also won gold. In total, Cooley won 11 medals in London. The London International Wine and Spirit Competition is the premier competition of its kind in the world. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world's best wines, spirits and liqueurs. The Competition’s evaluation process is renowned for its rigorous judging. Each category is blind tasted and judged by a panel of experts with particular knowledge of the area/style being tasted. Awards are made on the Olympic principle – one Gold medal, one Silver and one Bronze, in each product category. Commenting, Chairman John Teeling said, "It is wonderful to win these medals but the real proof of quality is satisfied consumers. This year all of our single malts are showing significant increases in sales as more and more discerning drinkers discover the rare qualities in our whiskeys".
