LOCKE'S 8 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT IRISH WHISKEY

The name of one of Ireland's great distilling families lives again...Oaky tones and complexity of flavour

The Locke's Single Malt was the pioneer brand for Cooley as it was the first brand launched in 1992. On the 17th of July that year the first mature cask of Locke's Single Malt was tapped by the Grand-daughter of the last John Locke. The initial bottling was a limited edition of 5,000 individually numbered bottles presented in a wooden box. In 1998 the brand was officially launched and went on general release to complete Cooley's malt range.

This fine whiskey is distilled in Cooley in traditional pot stills and uses only the finest malted barley and the purest Irish spring water. Locke's Single Malt has a distinctive character and flavour, fully developed through gentle maturation in oak casks held in the 200 year old warehouses in Kilbeggan in heart of Ireland.

However it wasn't until 2000 that Cooley launched its first aged whiskey, Locke's 8 Year Old Single Malt. Its unique quality and flavour was fully rewarded when it won a Gold medal in the 2001 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Tasting notes of Jim Murray, renowned Whiskey Commentator

Nose: Full flavoured nose bulging with big fruit-barley character. Oaky traces from the oldest of Cooley's malts.

Taste: The barley is big and succulent. There is a copper-tanginess followed by a dry fruity flavour.

Finish: The malt is nothing short of enormous & with a tanginess character. The minimum 8 year old oak passes leaving a vanilla essence and peaty finish.

Serving Suggestions

Locke's 8 Year old Single Malt can be served neat, on the rocks, or with a little water to taste. A very enjoyable dram to be enjoyed after lunch.

Awards

Locke's Single Malt won awards over the years in the International Wine and Spirits Competition: silver (1997, 1999), Bronze (2000) and in the International Wine and Spirits Challenge: Bronze (1997). The International Wine and Spirits Competition awarded Locke's 8 Year old Single malt a Gold in 2001.

Endorsements

"Delicate and fresh. Attractive." Dave Broom, author of Handbook of Whisky.

"A very tasty dram, with a clear malt-intense in the Speyside style. The sheer intensity of the malt is sublime." Jim Murray, author of Classic Irish Whiskey.

".....found it to be staggeringly beautiful & Locke's has it all, a beautiful creamy nose, smooth mouthfilling roundness and the most delicious gently smokey aftertaste &, if you see this whiskey do your self a favour - Forget all the bottles of fancy wood finished Scotch and get this. I promise you a rare and wonderful treat."
"A minimum age of 8 years has given this whiskey the smoothness one would expect. The marrying of peat and non-peated malts has given this whiskey everything, honey, oak, fruit, peat, mouth-feel and finish." Noel Sweeney, Cooley Master Blender.
